Let’s talk
Plastic Polution
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to our environment. Its magnitude becomes most apparent at the sea shores where a lot of the trash - that finds its way into the water - ends up.
But why do we need to change this?
For one, we would like to our surroundings to be clean. Okay, that by itself seems like a pretty selfish reason. However, a major reason to fight plastic pollution is its effect on marine life. Plastic debris kills million of fish every year and the ones that don’t die from it will most likely be contaminated by micro plastic. Even the one you’re eating.
Plastic degradation can take up to hundreds of years.
The ocean is a huge system that supports a stable climate on earth more than you think. Destroying this system is fatal.
The production and disposal of plastic also have a major effect on the environment, causing tremendous amounts of CO2 emissions.
For that reason, I urge you to minimize your plastic usage.
Whenever you can choose bio degradable alternatives and when you can’t, think twice about your purchase/usage.
Beside using and producing less plastic in the first place, we need to make sure that trash and plastic in and around the oceans get collected.
Starboard’s Plastic Offset Program is a great initiative and and has already made a huge impact on beaches in Thailand an Myanmar.
